What Is Oak Glen?

Oak Glen is a small agricultural community located in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains. At 4000-5000ft above sea level we experience all four seasons.

Oak Glen has one central road that winds from the 10 interstate freeway in Yucaipa, CA up through the two valleys that that comprise Oak Glen, Potato Canyon and Wilshire Creek Canyon. The same road then travels back out of the hills and returns to the 10 interstate freeway in Beaumont, CA. The whole stretch of Oak Glen Road is a scenic loop that travels a total distance of 20 miles. Oak Glen is a 5 mile section of this road and passes apple farms, shops, restaurants, group camps, nature trails, bakeries, cafes, ciderys, and historical landmarks.

Oak Glen is one of the most scenic pockets in Southern California — apple country, high enough that summer stays cooler and winter still knows how to make a snowman. Folks come for a simpler day: crisp air, a real change of seasons, and the family traditions that have lived on this road for generations.

The high-country climate sits about 10–15 degrees cooler than the valleys. In spring the slopes go white with apple blossom. In fall they hang heavy with fruit. The scenery has that New England color — maples, orchards, and wood smoke — and it is only about 90 minutes from Los Angeles, on the way toward Palm Springs. An hour from either city if the traffic is kind. Spend the day having some good ole’ country fun.

What a day in the Glen looks like

Visit the orchards. Buy mountain-tree-fresh apples and cider. Sit down for hot apple pie and the other baked apple treats the family restaurants still pull from the oven. Feed the animals at the park. Browse the specialty shops strung through the Glen. When you want to stay, there is a bed and breakfast, RV space, camping, and room for groups.

Fall harvest — Labor Day weekend through Thanksgiving weekend

This is the season the mountain was built for. Pick your own apples, raspberries, or pumpkins. Press your own cider. Hear country music, dance, sit down to a dinner event, and do the old-fashioned things that do not need a screen. Walk or hike the Wildlands Conservancy preserve. Step into the historic Oak Glen School House Museum. Take a horse-drawn wagon through the orchards. Marvel at fall color as brilliant as anything east of the Rockies — and you never left the Inland Empire.

Oak Glen is not only a postcard. It is a working entertainment road: orchard stages, harvest weekends, dinner theater, wagon rides, and the shops and kitchens that keep the Glen open year-round. That is directory material.

The Harvest is in a bit early with summer apple already available for picking! Official festivities begin Labor Day weekend!

Dotted amongst the pines and oaks of Oak Glen you will find a few group camps. These camps are available for group camp trips and provide a peaceful escape to the great outdoors.
